The factory A380 cast-aluminum D-drum in the ZF 8HP45/50/51 is one of the weak links once power levels rise—prone to cracking, distortion, and oil starvation under high load and high RPM clutch events. Why 7075-T6? Superior Strength Where It Matters

Most OEM drums use A380 cast aluminum, chosen for cost—not strength. By contrast, 7075-T6 aerospace-grade billet aluminum delivers:

Massive Strength Increase Over A380

• 7075-T6 tensile strength: ~74–78 ksi

• A380 cast aluminum: ~46 ksi

• Result: Significantly higher resistance to cracking, deformation, and fatigue under aggressive clutch pressure spikes.
