Is your Q7 rattling underneath, or just sounding a little too much like a minivan for a supercharged V6? Audi Q7 3.0T downpipes fix both, and the only real decision is how much sound you want. We make two versions for the 4M Q7: resonated sport downpipes for a refined tone with minimal drone, and non-resonated sport downpipes for a louder, more aggressive note. Same stainless construction, same bolt-in fit, different personality. Here's how to pick.
Why the Q7 3.0T Needs Better Downpipes
These pipes started on our own Q7 3.0T test mule. The factory pipes behind the catalytic converters were worn and rattling, and we didn't want to pay to bolt the same thing back in. So we built a replacement that fixes the rattle, flows better and finally lets the supercharged V6 sound like one.
Signs your factory pipes are due:
- ✅ A rattle or buzz from under the SUV, worst at idle or light throttle
- ✅ Rust, flaking heat shields or tired hangers on the factory pipes
- ✅ An exhaust note that sounds muted for 333 supercharged horsepower
- ✅ You're already planning other exhaust or supercharger upgrades
Quick terminology note: the supercharged 3.0T has no turbo, so "downpipe" means something a little different here. On the 4M Q7 it's the section after the catalytic converters. Our Audi 3.0T downpipes guide explains how that differs on the S4, S5 and A6.
What to Look for in Q7 3.0T Downpipes
Options for the 4M Q7 3.0T are thin. Most of the aftermarket was built around the S4 and S5. Whatever you buy, check for:
- ✅ Q7-specific fitment. The 4M Q7 exhaust is not the same as the B8 or C7 layout, and it isn't the same as the 4L Q7.
- ✅ 304L stainless steel. It handles heat and road salt for the long haul.
- ✅ Mandrel bends, so the pipe diameter stays consistent through every bend.
- ✅ A bolt-in install that uses the factory mounting points.
- ✅ A sound level you can live with. This is a three-row SUV. Choose resonated or non-resonated on purpose, not by accident.
- ✅ Know where it bolts in. Our pipes are not catted and mount after the factory converters, so the converter section is a separate part.
Resonated vs Non-Resonated Q7 Downpipes
In short: both versions are 304L stainless, mandrel-bent and direct-fit for the 4M Q7 3.0T. The resonated sport downpipes ($699.99) add large straight-through resonators that keep the tone refined with minimal drone at cruise. The non-resonated sport downpipes ($599.99) skip the resonators for a louder, more aggressive sound. Neither version is catted. Both bolt in after the factory catalytic converters, so they are not test pipes.
Stock note: the resonated sport downpipes are currently out of stock. The non-resonated version is available now.
| Resonated sport downpipes | Non-resonated sport downpipes | Factory pipes | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sound | Refined and sporty, bold on throttle, smooth at cruise | Louder and more aggressive | Muted |
| Drone | Minimal, thanks to straight-through resonators | More than resonated | None, but no character either |
| Material | 304L stainless, mandrel-bent | 304L stainless, mandrel-bent | Factory steel with heat shields |
| Catted | No, bolts in after the factory converters | No, bolts in after the factory converters | No |
| Install | Bolt-in, factory mounting points | Bolt-in, factory mounting points | N/A |
| Best for | Daily drivers, road trips, family hauling | Owners who want to hear the V6 | Owners who like quiet |
| Price | $699.99 | $599.99 | Dealer pricing |

Which Q7 Downpipe Should You Choose?
Choose resonated if...
- ✅ The Q7 is your daily driver or family hauler
- ✅ You do a lot of highway miles
- ✅ You want more character without your passengers noticing at 75 mph
Choose non-resonated if...
- ✅ You want the supercharged V6 front and center
- ✅ You already run a cat-back or plan to
- ✅ Drone doesn't bother you, or you're mostly driving around town
Still stuck? Most owners who tow, road-trip or carry kids pick resonated. Most owners who bought the Q7 because it's the fastest SUV in the driveway pick non-resonated.
Audi Q7 3.0T Downpipe Fitment
Both versions fit the Audi Q7 4M with the 3.0T supercharged V6, sold in the US for the 2017-2019 model years. They do not fit the 2011-2015 4L Q7, which has a different exhaust layout, or the 2020 and newer Q7 55 TFSI with the turbocharged V6. Not sure which engine you have? Email help@vorsprungautowerk.com with your VIN.
Building a dedicated track or off-road Q7? The Q7 test pipes for the 2017-2019 CREC engine replace the converter section instead. See test pipes vs high flow cats before you decide, and check your local emissions and inspection rules first.
Install Notes
- ✅ Let the exhaust cool completely before you start. Factory hardware gets stubborn after a few years, so soak the bolts with penetrating oil.
- ✅ Use new gaskets at every joint you open.
- ✅ Hang everything loosely first, then tighten front to back so nothing preloads against a hanger.
- ✅ Check for leaks and contact after the first heat cycle, then retorque.
Doing more while the Q7 is in the air? A ported supercharger pairs well with the added exhaust flow. If the blower is coming off anyway, the Gen 2 CREC under supercharger kit replaces the thermostat, water pump, PCV valve and gaskets in the same visit.
Audi Q7 3.0T Downpipes FAQ
What is the difference between resonated and non-resonated Q7 downpipes?
Both use the same 304L stainless, mandrel-bent layout and bolt to the same factory mounting points. The resonated version adds large straight-through resonators for a refined, sporty tone with minimal drone. The non-resonated version skips them for a louder, more aggressive sound.
Are these Q7 3.0T downpipes catted?
No. Neither version is catted. On the 4M Q7 3.0T our sport downpipes replace the factory pipes after the catalytic converters, and the factory converters are not touched. The converter section itself is replaced by a test pipe, which is a separate part. Check your local emissions and inspection rules before installing any exhaust part.
Which Audi Q7 do these downpipes fit?
The 4M Q7 with the 3.0T supercharged V6, sold in the US for the 2017-2019 model years. They do not fit the earlier 4L Q7 or the 2020 and newer Q7 55 TFSI turbo V6.
Will Q7 downpipes cause drone on the highway?
The resonated version is the one built to keep cruise quiet. The non-resonated version is louder overall, so if you spend a lot of time on the highway or carry passengers often, start with the resonated pipes.
Do I need a tune for Q7 downpipes?
No tune is required just to install them. If you are stacking them with other exhaust or supercharger upgrades, a tune helps you make full use of the added flow.
Are these a direct bolt-on?
Yes. Both versions are engineered to match the factory mounting points on the 4M Q7 3.0T, so no cutting or welding is needed.
How much do Q7 3.0T downpipes cost?
Our non-resonated sport downpipes are $599.99 and the resonated sport downpipes are $699.99.
Can I run downpipes with Q7 test pipes?
Yes. They replace different sections of the exhaust. Test pipes replace the converter section and are meant for track and off-road builds. Check your local emissions and inspection rules before removing any catalytic converter.
Bottom Line on Audi Q7 3.0T Downpipes
Both versions fix the rattle, flow better than stock and bolt right in. The only question is volume. Pick the resonated Q7 sport downpipes if you want a refined tone with minimal drone (currently out of stock), or the non-resonated Q7 sport downpipes if you want your supercharged V6 heard.
