"It's 5x112, it'll fit." Famous last words, usually followed by a vibration at 70 mph, a spoke kissing a caliper, or wheel bolts clamping on the wrong seat. This Audi wheel fitment guide walks through every check that actually decides whether a wheel works on your B8, B9, C7, C8 or 4M Q7: bolt pattern, center bore, offset and width, tire size, hub rings and lug seat. The last one gets ignored the most, which is why we built the titanium ball seat wheel lug kit for Audi to match the factory seat exactly.
The Five Checks in Any Audi Wheel Fitment Guide
- ✅ Bolt pattern (PCD): the wheel has to line up with the hub. Necessary, but only the first gate.
- ✅ Center bore: decides whether the hub centers the wheel or the bolts try to.
- ✅ Width and offset: decide where the wheel sits between the strut and the fender.
- ✅ Brake clearance: spoke shape and barrel profile versus your calipers.
- ✅ Lug seat and hardware: ball seat vs conical, thread length and torque.
Miss any one and the wheel can bolt on and still be wrong. Here is each check in plain language.
Audi Bolt Pattern and Center Bore by Platform
Modern Audis are refreshingly consistent. The B8, B9, C7 and C8 families use a 5x112 bolt pattern, a 66.5 mm center bore and M14x1.5 ball-seat wheel bolts. The Q7 is the trap: the first-generation 4L used 5x130, while the 4M from 2017 on moved to 5x112, with its bore listed at 66.5 to 66.6 mm depending on the source. Measure before you order.
| Platform | Bolt pattern | Center bore | Published factory wheels |
|---|---|---|---|
| B8/B8.5 S4 (2010-2016) | 5x112 | 66.5 mm | 18x8 ET47, optional 19x8.5 ET43 |
| B9/B9.5 S4 (2018 on) | 5x112 | 66.5 mm | 18x8 ET40, optional 19x8.5 ET40 |
| C7/C7.5 A6, S6, A7, S7 | 5x112 | 66.5 mm | Varies by model and package |
| C8 RS6 and RS7 | 5x112 | 66.5 mm | 21x10.5 ET19; 21 inch minimum for brakes |
| Q7 4M (2017 on) | 5x112 | 66.5-66.6 mm | Varies; confirm bore |
| Q7 4L (first generation) | 5x130 | Different hub | Not interchangeable with 5x112 wheels |
Note the engines too, because plenty of guides mix them up: the B8 S4 and C7 3.0T are the supercharged EA837, the B9 S4 is the turbocharged EA839, and the C8 RS6 and RS7 use the EA825 4.0T V8.
Hub Rings: When You Need Them
A hub-centric wheel is centered by the hub lip before the bolts are torqued. If an aftermarket wheel has a bigger bore than 66.5 mm, the bolts end up doing the centering, and that is where mystery vibrations come from. The fix is a hub-centric ring with a 66.5 mm inner diameter and an outer diameter that matches the wheel's bore exactly.
- ✅ Measure the wheel bore with calipers; do not trust a listing that says "fits all 5x112"
- ✅ The ring should press in snugly and sit flush, never proud of the mounting face
- ✅ A wheel bore machined to 66.5 mm needs no ring at all, which is how our made-to-order forged wheels are specified
- ✅ A bore smaller than the hub will not fit, period. Do not force it
Rings go the other way too: a ring with a 57.1 mm inner diameter adapts a 66.5 mm Audi-bore wheel to an older VW hub. That is useful for a Golf, not for your S4.
Offset, Width and Brake Clearance
Offset (ET) is the distance from the mounting face to the wheel centerline. Higher ET pulls the wheel in, lower ET pushes it out, and width adds half its change to each side. Going from a B9 S4 19x8.5 ET40 to a 19x9.5 ET35 moves the outer face 17.7 mm out and the inner barrel 7.7 mm closer to the strut. Our guide on how to measure wheel offset shows the full math and how to measure your own wheels.
Offset still won't tell you whether the spokes clear the calipers. Concave designs taper toward the hub, and on S and RS brakes the spoke backs are usually what touches first. Test-fit one bare wheel and spin it slowly before mounting tires, and remember that C8 RS6 and RS7 owners need at least a 21 inch wheel. For platform-by-platform sizing, see the Audi forged wheels buying guide.
Tire Sizes: Keep Overall Diameter Close to Stock
Bigger wheels mean shorter sidewalls. Keep the overall tire diameter close to factory so the speedometer, ABS and stability systems see the rotation they expect. Here is the math against the B9 S4's factory 245/40R18:
| Tire size | Overall diameter | Vs 245/40R18 |
|---|---|---|
| 245/40R18 (B9 S4 factory 18) | 653 mm | baseline |
| 245/35R19 (B9 S4 factory 19, 2018-2019) | 654 mm | +0.1% |
| 255/35R19 (B9 S4 factory 19, 2020 on) | 661 mm | +1.2% |
| 255/30R20 | 661 mm | +1.2% |
| 265/30R20 | 667 mm | +2.1% |
Numbers are calculated from the size notation; real tires vary a little by brand. Also check load index against your car's placard, especially on a heavy Q7, and confirm the tire's actual section width clears the strut at full lock.
Lug Seats: The Fitment Check Everyone Skips
Audi wheel bolts use a ball (radius) seat. Most aftermarket wheels use a 60-degree conical seat. Put ball-seat bolts in a conical wheel, or the reverse, and the bolt clamps on a thin ring of contact instead of a full seat. It can feel tight on the wrench and still work loose. Match the hardware to the wheel, every time.

Install and Torque Tips
- ✅ Clean rust and debris off the hub face so the wheel seats flat
- ✅ Fit hub rings first if your wheels need them
- ✅ Hand-start every bolt, then torque in a star pattern to factory spec: published guides list 120 Nm for B8 and B9 cars; confirm in your manual for other models
- ✅ With spacers, use longer bolts for full thread engagement
- ✅ Re-torque after the first 50 to 100 miles
- ✅ Stud kit: studs go into the hub at 15 Nm with the supplied thread locker, then the nuts go to factory wheel torque
Audi Wheel Fitment Guide FAQ
What is the Audi bolt pattern?
B8, B9, C7, C8 and 4M Q7 Audis use 5x112. The earlier 4L Q7 used 5x130, so check the generation before buying.
What is the center bore on modern Audis?
66.5 mm on B8, B9, C7 and C8 cars. The 4M Q7 is listed at 66.5 to 66.6 mm depending on the source, so measure.
Do I need hub-centric rings on my Audi?
Only if the wheel bore is larger than your hub. Use a ring with a 66.5 mm inner diameter and an outer diameter that matches the wheel bore exactly.
Are Audi lug bolts ball seat or conical?
Factory Audi wheel bolts use a ball (radius) seat. Most aftermarket wheels use a 60-degree conical seat, so match your bolts to the wheel.
What is the wheel bolt torque for an Audi S4?
Published guides list 120 Nm for B8 and B9 cars. Always confirm the value for your exact model and re-check after 50 to 100 miles.
What tire size fits a B9 S4 on 19 inch wheels?
Factory 19 inch B9 S4 wheels used 245/35R19 on 2018-2019 cars and 255/35R19 from 2020. Both stay close to the 18 inch tire diameter.
Can I use a wheel spacer with factory bolts?
Only thin spacers may work with factory bolts. Most spacers need longer bolts for proper thread engagement, and they should be hub-centric.
What does this Audi wheel fitment guide recommend for hardware?
Match the lug seat to your wheel. For ball-seat wheels, our titanium ball seat lug kit is a direct match for factory geometry.
