Forging starts with a solid billet of aluminum alloy, most often 6061-T6. The billet is heated and crushed in a massive press into a rough wheel blank, which aligns and tightens the grain structure instead of letting it form randomly as metal cools. The blank is then heat treated to the T6 temper and CNC machined into its final shape. 6061-T6 is a well-documented alloy: typical tensile strength is about 310 MPa at a density of 2.70 g/cm³ (6061 aluminium alloy reference).
